Proposed strategic objectives

Proposed Strategic Objectives of the QTU 2006 - 2010

1. Protecting and improving teaching conditions;
2. Promoting Public Education;
3. Leadership in curriculum and professional issues;
4. Developing union and community partnerships; and
5. Electing supportive governments and candidates.

Using the QTU’s Strategic Objectives

The above list of proposed strategic objectives for the QTU are not the complete list of the objectives the Union will pursue over the next five years.  Nor are they a complete list of the services that members will receive.

What they are is a list of the most important objectives that the Union can pursue during that time to make the biggest difference for QTU members and Queensland state schools.  This is the purpose for which they have been shaped.

Established strategic objectives is fundamentally about choice - choosing the most important from amongst the multitude of possible objectives and strategies.  The Union’s resources are finite.  How do we achieve the best outcomes with those resources?
The strategic objectives adopted by the QTU State Council will be used to allocate QTU resources and as a basis for evaluating  proposals put to the QTU is for consideration.

Planning the Next Step

The Executive Planning Seminar strongly endorsed the retention of strategies adopted as part of the Next Step campaign.

These include:

  • Empowering members to address issues;
  • Queensland Teachers Assist Desk;
  • Enhanced role for union delegates;
  • Senior Union Representative;
  • Encouraging rank and file activism;
  • Campaign Action Group (CAG); and
  • Campaigning focus including workplace and local area campaigns

In addition, Executive endorsed the following new or extended strategies to help achieve the strategic objectives:

  • Development of new campaigning networks on professional or curriculum issues;
  • Continued development of Union Representatives;
  • Explore partnerships with unions and community groups;
  • Recruitment and activation of beginning teachers;
  • Review of QTU communication strategies; and
  • Review of QTU structures and resource allocations
