The QTU has established two groups within the Union, the Campaign Action Group [CAG] and Retired Activists Group [RAG], to inform the community and influence the decisions of the politicians who represent the community.

CAG consists of members committed to being involved in political campaigns organised by the Union.

CAG infuses grass roots campaigning within the QTU as a permanent feature.

RAG consists of retired members who are also committed but who may have the opportunity to attend campaign activities and respond on talk back programs at times when CAG members are at work.  They may also be respected members of community groups through which they can further QTU campaigns.

At a local level, each Organiser will co-ordinate his/her CAG and/or RAG group under the leadership of a Regional CAG/RAG Member Co-ordinator. This local CAG and/or RAG group can undertake local campaigns specific to the area, as well as conducting statewide Union campaigns.

CAG members are already;

  • organising delegations to MPs
  • organising rallies and demonstrations
  • organising meetings to gain support from community groups
  • supporting pro-public education MPs during elections
  • organising telephone campaigns
  • writing letters to the editor
  • engaging in talk back radio on relevant issues

CAG and RAG give those members, in the workplace or retired, disillusioned with our current political system, an opportunity to be involved.

ADVICE TO CAG MEMBERS ON CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES

The QTU has prepared advice to make you aware of your rights and to avoid any potential pitfalls in your activities. The advice covers two main areas: your right of public comment; and the use of Departmental resources. Some additional provisions apply specifically to members who are also School Union Representatives.

Being a member of the Campaign Action Group or Retired Activists Group lets you make a difference by doing something positive to support the pursuit of the Union's objectives.
