Principal Update Feb 2010
QTU Principal Update Newsletter TRIAL

My School

On 19 February a Member’s Newsflash was sent to all schools.  This Newsflash, “My School Ballot”, provides vital information around the following:

  • My School – The Issue
  • QTU Ballot
  • The Negative effects  and significant problems of the My School website
  • The national approach be taken by the Australian Education Union

We need your help!

Principals are vital in helping communicate our concerns regarding the My School website to parents and the wider community.

What can you do?

  • Please visit the AEU’s league table home page today.  There you can learn more about the  issue and watch a video on the damaging impact of league tables.
  • Send home the attached letter from the AEU and the QTU to parents outlining concerns raised in the media.  This letter may be useful in addressing these concerns.  Please feel free to copy and distribute to parents.
  • Include an article in your school newsletter. Attached is a really good example of an article, written by a principal for the school newsletter, to put My School in context.
  • Support Public Education

Below are links to some images* we believe could be used in school newsletters.

  1. *The corflute image is the same as the corflutes that schools all over Australia display at the front of their school.  This can be included in a small format in your newsletter.
  2. *Newsletter Advertisement 1
  3. *Newsletter Advertisement 2
  4. *Newsletter Advertisement 3
*These links are to jpg files

These ‘advertisements’ are designed to fit a quarter A4 format and include a statement by President Obama about the importance of education and a poster promoting ‘public education’.  One suggestion is that schools could insert photos of their own students in these advertisements for publication.

Thank you for your help in this My School Campaign which aims to prevent the misuse of the data by the media through legislation and improve the website as outlined in the Members’ Newsflash.
