QTU Education Scholarships

The Queensland Teachers’ Union is again offering QTU education scholarships for eligible undergraduates in 2012.

This initiative is part of the Union’s campaign to promote the role of the Union in the profession.  There will be a total of 11 QTU teacher education scholarships awarded at $2000 per annum. Download application form

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled (or intend to enrol) in an undergraduate education/teaching degree at a public university in Queensland.
  • Applicants must have completed year 12 at a state school.
  • At the time of completion of year 12, one of the applicant’s parents/guardian must be a financial member of the QTU, or a QTU employee or a retired member who was a QTU member at the time of retirement.
  • Successful applicants must be prepared to assist the Union via publicity in the Journal etc.
  • All applicants must indicate a willingness to sign a Statutory Declaration, indicating that the $2000 will be used for education-related expenses, such as HECS, books, computer technology etc.
  • Successful applicants from previous years are eligible to apply.

Bob White Scholarship

In recognition of Bob White’s contribution to the QTU over a period of approximately 40 years, the QTU decided to award an additional Bob White Scholarship in 2002 and beyond.

This scholarship’s eligibility criteria are:

  • applicants must be enrolled (or intend to enrol) in an undergraduate education/teaching degree at a public university in Queensland;
  • applicants must have completed year 12 at Glenala State High School;
  • the successful applicant must be prepared to assist the Union in publicising the Bob White Scholarship; and
  • all applicants must indicate a willingness to sign a Statutory Declaration indicating the $2000 will be used for education-related expenses, e.g. HECS, books, computer technology etc.

Application forms are available  here. Applications have to be received by the Union by the close of business on Friday, 27 January 2012.  Successful applicants will be notified late February 2012.

Selection process

A QTU Executive sub-committee will consider the applications and select the 11 successful applicants. Criteria used to select the successful applicants include:

  • consideration of financial need, including any pressing personal circumstances;
  • year 12 academic results of first-year applicants and university results from other applicants;
  • at least some of the successful applicants shall be from remote/country areas distant from the tertiary institutions at which they are studying; and 
  • at least some of the successful applicants shall be in their first year of an undergraduate course.
