Professional Development

Do I have to undertake inservice (professional development) outside of school hours?

You cannot be compelled to undertake professional development outside of rostered duty time

  • UNLESS there has been a workplace reform that provided time off for teacher on Pupil free days in return for professional development outside of school hours. This reform must have been supported by the majority of employees and endorsed by the Local Consultative Committee LCC before its implementation.

What if I cannot attend a professional development outside of work hours (twilight session)?

You must be allowed to make alternative arrangements in consultation with your principal. This is stated clearly in the Department of Education and Training Teachers’ Certified Agreement 2010 section 3.7.3 (f)

“Alternative arrangements are available for teachers who do not participate in the professional development”.
