Australia votes YES for Marriage Equality
The Australian community has registered strong support for marriage equality with 61.6% of the more than 12 million responses to the voluntary survey voting YES.
While this outcome places huge pressure on politicians to deliver on the promise of legislating for marriage equality before the end of the year, there is a growing list of politicians who have indicated that they will ignore the wishes of the community and vote against legislation. The campaign to deliver equality will continue.
Equality is union business and students, support staff, teachers and principals in our schools will benefit from our combined support for this grass roots campaign to change the rules.
Today is an important victory on the road to overcoming inequality. Some QTU members recorded this message to say thanks to everyone for their support and to celebrate this historic event.
Thanks for your contribution to this outcome.
