Industrial Relations Education Leave - with pay - was awarded by the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission in February 1997. QTU members are entitled to 5 days IRE leave per year to attend Union training.

The Queensland Teachers’ Education Centre (QTEC) is responsible for the coordination, planning and delivery of the Union’s education and training program for QTU members statewide.

The Union offers a comprehensive program of courses and conferences to Union Reps and Activists to support them in their role and to assist them to become more knowledgeable, active and effective representatives of the QTU at the workplace.

Courses and conferences conducted by QTEC include:

  • Role of the Union Rep
  • Industrial Relations Skills for Administrators
  • Women Activists
  • TAFE Activists
  • New Teachers

The Union includes in its courses and conferences training modules which focus on skilling its representatives in the areas of negotiation, campaigning and lobbying, conducting meetings and leading discussions, dealing with workplace issues.

Watch out for courses in your area as they are advertised throughout the year, both on the website and in the QTU Journal.
