Special Ed staffing information 2010

For 2010, Special Education Programs and Services indicative resources have been allocated to Regions as a percentage share of the statewide SWD resource budget, after resources have been allocated to Special Schools, based on:

  • a three year (2008-2010) average of state and non-state students showing in Special Education Programs and Services in each Region;
  • the number of decile 10 students with an intellectual impairment enrolled in primary and secondary schools, resourced at the average ratio for Special Schools as of Day 8 2010; and
  • non-contact time, Head of Special Education Services administration time, AAT and weighting for time and travel.
  • Specialised health note taking and II/CCB advised separately.

This methodology provides resources for all SWD who are in Special Education Programs and Services; who have a verified disability and are recorded in AIMS.

Final staffing for 2010 will be based on Day 8 2010 AIMS information.

For Special Schools, teacher numbers have been allocated on the basis of all school aged students on AIMS using a ratio of 1:7, with a ratio for each additional verified impairment resourced on 1:12.8. Teacher aide hours have been allocated on the basis of 28 hours per week for each classroom teacher FTE. Allocations have been made based on this model.

Prep aged students with disabilities have been resourced through the regional allocations, as for 2009. Regions have been resourced according to the percentage of identified Prep students in the state. However Prep aged (Early Entry) students in Special School programs are included in the methodology for Special Schools.

Prior to Prep aged students with disabilities have been resourced as for 2009.  Regions are resourced according to the percentage of identified prior to Prep students based on the August census download.

Schools should assess their staffing situation in early 2010 and contact their relevant QTU organiser, if necessary. to discuss possible action.
