New York teacher bonus program shelved
The flagship program in New York, upon which the Gillard government has based its teacher performance pay scheme has been abandoned.
The New York City program has ceased after research into the bonus scheme showed that it had no effect on students’ test scores, report card grades and teacher performance.
The research supports the QTU’s assertion that performance pay does not work. Now education officials in New York are looking at a merit-based pay model. This is a promising step forward for the QTU’s proposed professional pay position.
