Preparation, planning and classroom visits
We are aware of uncertainty and concern in some schools over the rights/responsibilities of teachers and administrator members in relation to accountability issues such as lesson preparation, planning and supervisors' classroom visits. There obviously has to be a balance between the responsibility of principals to be accountable for the quality of teaching and learning in their schools, and the professional rights of teachers. The Union and the Department of Education and Training are meeting to produce a joint statement which will hopefully clarify these important professional questions. More information will be available soon.
Natural Disaster Relief Fund for members
The QTU has been supporting members affected by flooding and cyclones, with around $342,000 allocated to more than 400 members to date. It is the QTU's strong membership base that has enabled us to do this. Every member has contributed to this effort, through their annual membership subscriptions.
Maintain Union protection - make sure you are financial
If you pay your annual dues in one instalment at the beginning of each year, don't forget that payment is due by 31 March. If you miss the deadline, you will become unfinancial and will therefore have no legal protection. Don’t forget, you can elect to pay by multiple instalments. Head to www.qtu.asn.au to update your details or pay online.
