Teaching and Learning Audits
On Monday, QTU members received a Member’s Newsflash stating:“All QTU members are hereby directed to suspend any participation in the Teaching and Learning Audits until further notice.”
As reported in this Newsflash, DET is seeking discussions about the continuation of the audits, perhaps in a modified form. The QTU will first be canvassing member views about the audit’s value and future in the changed circumstances, including those of principals. We will keep you up to date through future QTU Principal Updates.
Crunch time for campaigns
The first term of 2012 will be a busy one for the Union, with some significant campaigns getting underway, including:
- state election
- schools funding review campaign
- Charter for Working Queenslanders
- EB7
Click on the Members’ Newsflash for more details of these campaigns.
Teacher-aide agreement
The QTU has received a number of phone calls from members asking about the teacher-aides’ certified agreement. The QTU is currently speaking to the department about this matter and will keep members informed of the outcome of these discussions. In the first instance, schools are encouraged to contact regional HR officers for assistance in implementation of the teacher-aides' certified agreement.
An evening with Ben Levin - Improving our schools: what we know and what we need to do

Condolences to US community
Tragic news continues to come from Moore, Oklahoma, where young children have died at Plaza Towers Elementary School, which was in the direct path of a tornado. As President Barack Obama has said, these children lost their lives in one of the safest places they knew – their school. The thoughts of 44,000 QTU members are with the devastated community.
