Lecturer

Lecturer Step 1

QTU negotiations have resulted in transitional arrangements for the pay and working conditions of Lecturers that include:

  • Eligibility to receive a one-off pro-rata $1250 bonus;
  • Back pay to 1 July 2019;
  • Transition to the new salary classification in the agreed industrial instrument;
  • Salary adjustment in January 2022;
  • Hours of duty provision limiting weekly programmed hours to 17;
  • Guarantee of four hours per week for scholarship;
  • Government wage policy (2.5%); and
  • Annual progression (a condition achieved in negotiations for the TAFE Queensland Award – 2016).


The proposed 4 year Agreement will mean that the annual salary of an employee who transitions to the agreed industrial instrument from 1 July 2019 to Lecturer Step 1 will be $92,353.58.

A structural adjustment will be made on 1 January 2022 to ensure the higher education classifications maintain salary alignment with Tutor, Teacher, and LVT.

An employee who transitions to the agreed industrial instrument at Lecturer Step 1 will achieve a salary increase at Step 4 of $109,481.22 by the nominal expiry of the Agreement. This is an increase of 18.55%.

All employees in the higher education classification structure who transition their employment conditions to the Certified Agreement will receive a pro-rata amount of the $1250 sign on bonus.

Lecturer Step 2

An employee who transitions to the agreed industrial instrument at Lecturer Step 2 will achieve a salary increase at Step 5 of $113,368.53 by the nominal expiry of the Agreement. This is an increase of 19.77%.

All employees in the higher education classification structure who transition their employment conditions to the Certified Agreement will receive a pro-rata amount of the $1250 sign on bonus.

Lecturer Step 3

All employees in the higher education classification structure who transition their employment conditions to the Certified Agreement will receive a pro-rata amount of the $1250 sign on bonus.

Lecturer Step 4

QTU negotiations have resulted in transitional arrangements for the pay and working conditions of Lecturers that include:

  • Eligibility to receive a one-off pro-rata $1250 bonus;

All employees in the higher education classification structure who transition their employment conditions to the Certified Agreement will receive a pro-rata amount of the $1250 sign on bonus.

Lecturer Step 5

The annual salary of an employee who is a full time Lecturer Step 5 will be $113,368.53 by the nominal expiry of the Agreement. This is an increase of 10.28%.

All employees in the higher education classification structure who transition their employment conditions to the Certified Agreement will receive a pro-rata amount of the $1250 sign on bonus.
