LEADING VOCATIONAL TEACHER (LVT)

LVT Step 1

At the expiry of the 2016 Agreement, the annual salary for a full-time LVT at Step 1 was $92,348.24.

QTU negotiations have resulted in increases that achieve:   

  • Additional one-off, pro-rata bonus of $1250;
  • Back pay to 1 July 2019; and
  • Transition to new salary classification; as well as
  •  Government wage policy (2.5%); and
  • Annual progression (a condition achieved in negotiations for the TAFE Queensland Award – 2016).


The proposed 4 year Agreement will mean that the annual salary of an employee who was an LVT at Step 1 at the expiry of the previous will progress to the newly created LVT Step 3 and a full-time annual salary of $109,596.79. This is an increase of 18.68%.

This is the first time that TAFE Queensland educators will achieve an annual full-time salary that is greater than $100,000, an amount that exists as a pay point in all other state and territory TAFEs and that was achieved in Queensland state schools on July 2018.

All employees in the LVT classification will also receive a pro-rata amount of the $1250 sign on bonus

LVT Step 2

At the expiry of the 2016 Agreement, the annual salary for a full-time LVT at Step 2 was $94,607.58.

  • Additional one-off, pro-rata bonus of $1250;
  • Back pay to 1 July 2019; and
  • Transition to new salary classification; as well as
  • Government wage policy (2.5%); and
  • Annual progression (a condition achieved in negotiations for the TAFE Queensland Award – 2016).

This is the first time that TAFE Queensland educators will achieve an annual full-time salary that is greater than $100,000, an amount that exists as a pay point in all other state and territory TAFEs and that was achieved in Queensland state schools on July 2018.

All employees in the LVT classification will also receive a pro-rata amount of the $1250 sign on bonus.

LVT Step 3

At the expiry of the 2016 Agreement, the annual salary for a full-time LVT at Step 1 was $96,859.09.

  • Additional one-off, pro-rata bonus of $1250;
  • Back pay to 1 July 2019; and
  • Transition to new salary classification; as well as
  • Government wage policy (2.5%); and
  • Annual progression (a condition achieved in negotiations for the TAFE Queensland Award – 2016).

This is the first time that TAFE Queensland educators will achieve an annual full-time salary that is greater than $100,000, an amount that exists as a pay point in all other state and territory TAFEs and that was achieved in Queensland state schools on July 2018.

All employees in the LVT classification will also receive a pro-rata amount of the $1250 sign on bonus.
