Delivering full day programs developed by Springfield Tech Centre.

Springfield Tech Centre has been training adults in a variety of practical courses for the past 7 years. Courses are delivered on weekends to ensure participants are able to access the practical school-based facilities and are delivered by presenters with a range of industry and school experience who understand that people are learning new skills and some participants have specific needs and are happy to adjust their training to accommodate those needs.

Industrial Technology and Design - Woodwork

Woodwork
Introductory Woodwork Skills for Teachers

These classes are designed for teachers who have an interest in teaching junior ITD. It is a practical subject that covers a range of timber joints often used in ITD. Classes are kept small with a maximum of 12. This workshop will be presented by an experienced ITD teacher who teaches ITD full time.

Timber Machining Skills for Teachers
These classes are designed to give participants skills in using a variety of woodworking machinery. This course will have participants using a thicknesser, mitre saw, table saw, band saw and router. As this is a high-risk subject and we want to ensure you are safe, we will teach you how to safely use the equipment, and therefore will conduct these classes with a maximum of 8 participants. This class will be presented by 2 experienced ITD teachers.

Wood Turning Skills for Teachers (Make a Pen)
This class will teach you to use a wood lathe safely and, in the process, you will turn up and assemble pens using different materials. The class will be presented by an experienced ITD teacher. Classes are kept small with a maximum of 7 participants.

Construction
This class will cover teaching Senior Construction in schools and will focus on skills needed to teach year 11 students, and aim to supply helpful advice to educators teaching construction, or for those intending to teach construction. Each class will be eight hours and hands-on to ensure participants gather the skills needed to teach the entire construction course offered at schools.​​​​​​​

Saw Horse and Decking
Participants will use a variety of machines and hand tools to cut compound angles to produce a sawhorse.

Industrial Technology and Design - Metalwork

Metalwork
Sheet Metalwork Skills for Teachers

These classes are designed for teachers who have an interest in teaching junior ITD or are teaching the subject and would like to improve their sheet metal skills. It is a practical subject that covers producing items from sheet metal. These classes are kept small with a maximum of 10. You will learn basic skills and move onto manufacturing a toolbox. The training will be run by an experienced ITD teacher who teaches ITD full time.

Metal Turning Machining Skills for Teachers
These classes are for teachers who have some experience in teaching ITD and want to teach machining. This course is presented by an experienced tradesperson with many years’ experience in machining and who has also taught machining to many schools over the years. These classes are very small with only 3 participants who will turn, taper, Knurl and cut a thread with the lathe and use the mill to face and cut grooves. The result will be a soft hammer or meat mallet.

MIG Welding and Metal Fabrication Skills for Teachers

These classes are for teachers who want to learn to MIG weld. This course covers setting up the machine and running sound welds on 3mm plate steel. We only conduct this class with 8 participants to ensure safety and provide you with plenty of help. These classes are facilitated by an experienced tradesperson who works in the industry and has plenty of experience teaching welding.

Technology and CAD

Technology in ITD - 3D Printing, Impact Printing, Laser Cutting
This course provides teachers with an understanding of how to use a 3D Printer, and hands-on experience in using an Impact Printer, a Sticker Printer and a Laser Cutter.

CAD Introduction to using Inventor
Inventor (Autodesk) is being utilised more, as it produces 3D files used in many machines found in schools’ workshops. This course will give teachers a sound understanding of the program, using it to produce working drawing used in ITD and STEM. This CAD course will give participants a sound understanding of the program, and how to use it to produce working drawings.

Springfield Tech Centre has been training adults in a variety of practical courses for the past 7 years. These courses are delivered by experienced ITD teachers and cover both introductory and further skills for teachers.

Courses facilitated by Springfield Tech Centre include Metal and Woodwork, Timber Machining, Turning Machining Metal and Metal fabrication & MIG Welding classes which are delivered on weekends to accommodate people who work during the week.

Courses are run at Bremer State High School (F Block), 133-153 Warwick Road, Ipswich.

Springfield Tech Centre take customer service very seriously and understand that people who are learning new skills and that some participants have specific needs and are happy to adjust their training to accommodate those needs.
