External transfer appeals

Myth :  There is no longer any avenue for external appeal against unwanted and unrequested transfer decisions.

Fact :  While it is true that the Public Service Commission no longer hears appeals against DETE decisions about transfers, unwanted and unrequested transfers can be appealed through the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC). For more information on the process of appealing through the QIRC – including the documentation required, go to

In some circumstances, appeals can be made to the Anti-Discrimination Commission if there is evidence that decisions have been made on a range of grounds, including sex, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, age, race or impairment.

For more information, see the QTU information sheets “Transfer appeals – what is fair and reasonable?” and “Teacher transfer - how to lodge an appeal”.
