Impact of enrolment figures on contracts

Q: If a teacher has been offered a temporary appointment from the beginning of the school year, but day eight enrolments are lower than expected, does that teacher’s contract get cancelled?

A: The QTU has been discussing such circumstances with DET, and is strongly of the view that the region should assist with honouring the contract, whether at the original school or another school. It would be grossly unfair if a teacher believes they have upcoming employment, whether it be for a term, semester or year, and so doesn’t seek work and finds out early in the year that their employment has ended.
