Letter to the editor

As Deputy General Secretary of the Queensland Teachers’ Union, I wish to clarify statements made by the Government regarding enterprise bargaining negotiations. A senior officer of the QTU has attended every meeting of the Single Bargaining Unit; as the lead negotiator I have attended the vast majority of them. As senior officers, we are elected to advocate on behalf of the 44,000 teacher and principal members of the QTU. Consequently we do not make autocratic decisions but consult within our democratic structures. This is not a practice that we intend to cease.
