Tell Queensland Government to fight Turnbull’s Gonski cuts
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s plan to end needs-based Gonski funding after 2017 will hurt state schools and their students.
New research reveals that along with getting rid of Gonski, the Coalition will direct money away from the state schools and students that need it most.
To save Gonski we need to work together to make sure the Turnbull plan is rejected by state and territory governments and the Senate.
Click here to add your name to our new petition asking Annastacia Palaszczuk to stand up for our kids and insist Gonski funding is delivered in full.
Under Turnbull’s plan, schools in Queensland would miss out on $725 million in funding in 2018 and 2019 alone.
Imagine what those resources could achieve at your school, and how students could benefit from more in-class support, targeted literacy and numeracy programs and better access to professional development for staff.
Gonski funding is changing lives and the full six years are vital to ensuring all schools get the resources they need.
We can’t let Malcolm Turnbull stop Gonski.

World Teachers’ Day
World Teachers’ Day (WTD) is celebrated internationally on 5 October and in Australia (because of school holidays) on 28 October.
The theme for 2016 is: Empowering Teachers, building sustainable societies. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, and is an opportunity to reflect on progress made and work still to be done.
At a state level, the QTU is again collaborating with the department and the Queensland College of Teachers on celebrations for WTD. Look forward to more information early next term.
