The 3Ps of TAFE EB10: Pay. Permanency. Programming.
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 124 No 4, 31 May 2019, page no. 22
TAFE Council is the QTU’s TAFE consultative body, made up of elected delegates from branches throughout the state. Delegates have established a clear agenda for TAFE EB10, calling on the employer to improve pay, permanent employment, and programming to address workload and work intensification. They believe TAFE EB10 is important because:
“it represents where we believe education should be - the value and importance of education through respect for educators, their wages and workplace conditions.” (Jenny Trevino, Southbank)
“we need to maintain and improve our conditions, salaries, and wages.” (Arthur Dellit, Toowoomba Branch)
“wages have not grown but the cost of living has increased.” (Cathy Hall, Mount Gravatt)
“workload is growing, which is forcing teachers to do more and more unpaid work.” (Franco Laviano, East Coast Branch)
“the levels of anxiety within the teaching staff are at an all-time high.” (Nathan Polo, Bundaberg)
“it will provide clarity regarding teaching duties, administration duties, NAT, etc.” (Greg Dowling, Bundamba)
“morale is very low and work is becoming very stressful.” (Chris Beek, Eagle Farm)
“our students will suffer if we are overworked.” (Tanya Noreen, Alexandra Hills)
“excessive workload leads to workplace stress that is directly related to mental health issues and chronic disease.” (Ian Jensen, Sunshine Coast)
“consultation is key in raising the awareness of workplace rights and entitlements with TAFE employees.” (Scott Green, Gold Coast)
“of the roll out of the educational team leader position and the practicality of and impact on team teaching loads.” (Suewellyn Kelly, Mackay)
