QTU Biennial Conference 2019 – our meeting place
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 124 No 4, 31 May 2019, page no. 6
Every two years, more than 250 QTU activists from across the state participate in the Union’s Biennial Conference.
Viewed as the supreme decision-making body of the Union, the Biennial Conference is a time of reflection, celebration and an opportunity to set the agenda for the Union for at least the next two years.
Spanning across the first three days of the winter school holidays, this years’ Biennial Conference will be a variation on the past.
The first day of Conference will provide an opportunity to reflect, reconcile and celebrate, with the awarding of life membership, consideration of the Union’s reconciliation action plan, celebrating successful campaigns with the campaign awards, and recognising the 130-year history of the QTU in the evening.
The second day of Conference will set the Union’s agenda, with a panel on professional issues, a guest speaker on industrial issues and concurrent sessions that will help shape what we do.
On the last day, the Conference will demonstrate that we have the power to make it happen. The conference will rally in the morning, debate Union policy, and release the conference statement.
Members will have a voice throughout by hearing reports, participating in debates, amending policy, considering the Union’s strategic objectives and shaping the Conference Statement.
Members of the Union interested in particular events, such as the panel on professional autonomy, the bestowing of life membership and the Conference rally should watch out for further information.
