Unpacking the Agreed Statement - Reducing Workload - 24 March 2021

Recently, the QTU has received inquiries in relation to the Workload Reduction Review resources that have been produced by the Union.

The agreed statement, released by the Minister last year was developed following negotiations with the QTU, and the detail contained in the Workload Reviews poster includes the detail that sat behind the agreed statement. Links to both of these documents are at the bottom of this post.

The poster illustrates what a school would look like when it complies with the requirements of the joint/agreed statements, policies and procedures of the Department and the Education Act.

A key to reducing workload is to stop expecting schools to do more than is required. Setting requirements as a minimum when the industrial instruments and Act do not prescribe adds another layer of complexity and blurs the lines of what needs to be done versus what can be done.

We all need to start to do things differently. This means that we need to stop using language that is not clear and transparent.

Together, let’s be more focused on how delivering these requirements provide positive outcomes for students and less on expectations to go above and beyond.
