Andrew Schumacher Memorial Trophy
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 126 No 7, 8 October 2021, page no.28
On a glorious Tuesday in the September school holidays, more than 100 QTU members participated in the sixth annual QTU Gold Coast Golf Day at Palm Meadows.
Teams from primary and secondary schools enjoyed the sunshine and a great deal of banter as they competed for the inaugural Andrew Schumacher Trophy.
Earlier this year, the profession lost a beautiful soul and a great man with the passing of Merrimac State School principal Andrew Schumacher. “Schuey” as he was known, was the only school leader (besides Chris Capra who organises it) to attend every GC Golf Day since we began hosting in 2016. Schuey was passionate about a variety of sports and building community, and he loved a laugh.
To honour Schuey’s memory and capacity for bringing people together, Schuey’s mum, Judy, attended to present the trophy. Pimpama State Secondary College members were the proud and boisterous winners, declaring their intention to retain the trophy in 2022.
