State Budget Submission delivered
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 128 No 1, 17 February 2023, page no. 6
The Queensland Teachers’ Union’s annual State Budget Submission has been sent to key stakeholders and politicians, including the Premier, the Education Minister, the Treasurer and relevant state opposition members.
This submission outlines members’ priorities, highlights how the education budget can focus upon and improve members’ working conditions, and supports strategic investment in public education.
Every Queensland child has a right to great educational opportunities, and Queensland teachers and education leaders have the right to a well-resourced, contemporary workplace that values the work that they undertake. The state’s education budget must support those notions.
To achieve educational equity, and to address issues such as workload, the introduction of the new Australian Curriculum, and occupational violence, the QTU’s 2023/2024 State Budget Submission reaffirms the urgent need for the Queensland and Commonwealth Governments to deliver fair funding to state schools.
It contains 64 recommendations, which fall under the following priority areas.
- Investing in public education and training
- Addressing the teacher shortage
- Reducing workload
- Investing in professional learning and curriculum support
- Prioritising safe schools
- Delivering a fair go for regional and remote Queensland
- Providing support for students with additional learning needs
- Supporting education leaders
- Prioritising First Nations education and employment
- Investing in TAFE
- Investing in infrastructure and facilities.
Details of the 64 recommendations can be found at https://www.qtu.asn.au/state-budget-submission-2023-24. This can only be accessed by QTU members.
