Malia's push for female faces for public spaces
When she realised that in every park she went to she was only seeing statues, pictures and plaques of men, Malia (the daughter of QTU member Kelley Knox) launched the FemaleFaces4PublicPlaces campaign, which aims to secure a law passed that mandates 50/50 gender representation of statues, plaques and pictures in public places.
Only 3 per cent of statues in Australia represent real women, there are only three statues in Brisbane of real women, and only 1 per cent of the Queensland greats awards displayed in the Roma St Parklands have plaques dedicated to women.
