Emma Miller Award for Suzee

The QTU’s Emma Miller Award winner for 2020 is dedicated school-based QTU Rep Suzee Dearlove.
Suzee is a vocal and incredibly active campaigner against domestic and family violence. A survivor herself, Suzee is commited to eliminating family and domestic violence and empowering individuals to make a positive difference. She has organised several White Ribbon events on the Gold Coast; and instituted White Ribbon celebrations/fundraising as part of the annual QTU Christmas in July.
She has championed teachers’ rights in relation to non-contact time and class sizes and has been a significant contributor to the running of Labour Day Celebrations on the Gold Coast. She has also been a member of the Gold Coast Area Council, President of her local QTU branch, a QTU State Conference Delegate and a reliable and diligent proxy for QTU State Council.
The annual Emma Miller Awards are organised by the Queensland Council of Unions to recognise the contribution of women to their unions, their activism and their empowerment of others. They are named in honour of Emma Miller, a world-renowned suffragette, union organiser and women’s rights activist.
