What are TAFE Council and TAFE Executive?
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 125 No 7, 2 October 2020, page no.14
Under the governing structures set out in the QTU Constitution and Rules, the Union’s TAFE Division has the authority to decide matters which, in the opinion of the TAFE Council, pertain exclusively to TAFE Division members.
The TAFE Council is the peak decision-making body for the QTU TAFE Division. It consists of 19 representative members drawn from 19 different branches or groups of branches around the state. The rank and file members who are elected to these positions (listed opposite) are responsible for making decisions on matters concerning the public providers of vocational education. They are elected for a three-year term. The current term has just commenced. TAFE Council meets four times a year, once per term, in person at the Milton office of the QTU. The decisions of the TAFE Council are noted and affirmed by QTU Executive and State Council.
TAFE Executive, which consists of six members elected by and from TAFE Council, runs the business of the TAFE Council between meetings. It meets eight times each year, with two meetings occurring between each TAFE Council meeting. All decisions of TAFE Executive are noted and affirmed by the full TAFE Council.
The TAFE Council and TAFE Executive are chaired by the President of the QTU. Branches can submit matters for consideration by TAFE Council and TAFE Executive through passing resolutions at properly constituted branch meetings. For details on how to do this, please contact the Union at tafe@qtu.asn.au
