THE PROFESSIONAL AND INDUSTRIAL VOICE OF QUEENSLAND’S TEACHERS AND SCHOOL LEADERS IN STATE SCHOOLS AND TAFE FOR MORE THAN 130 YEARS.

Labour Day 2021

While COVID-19 resulted in Labour Day celebrations being cancelled last year, we welcome the return of the rides and festivities and the chance to catch up with our friends from the QTU and other unions.

The Brisbane march will travel from the city to the RNA Showgrounds, and there will be a bus and transport available for small children and people with mobility issues who want to join in the celebration en route. Some regional areas are still planning alternatives to the usual celebrations, and our Union will also support a range of these alternative arrangements to mark the importance and value of the trade union movement in COVID safe ways. (see event details below)

Our movement has a long and proud history. Our achievements are many and varied, including many of the things we take for granted today, such as the eight-hour day, weekends, paid leave, equal pay for equal work, penalty rates and the minimum wage. The struggle to maintain protections and improve workplace rights continues, as we saw with the Morrison government’s attacks on industrial relations via its IR Omnibus legislation.

Labour Day is an important chance to come together and reflect and celebrate union values and achievements.  Please keep a look out for the Labour Day Newsflash and information.

We are also inviting members to share their best Labour Day photo/s via social media with the hashtag #QTULabourDay.  A prize will be awarded for the best picture.

This year May Day will be following the approved COVID safe guideline plans.

Please download the “Check In QLD” app so you can quickly sign in and out with the codes that will be provided at all entry and exit points.

Please follow the entry and exit points also, as this is part of the guidelines that must be followed under the approved COVID safe plan.
