27 Aug 2019: TAFE educators on strike
Tomorrow, Wednesday 28 August 2019, QTU TAFE educators will be stopping work for a period of 24 hours in support of their enterprise bargaining campaign.
TAFE members have been engaged in bargaining since the commencement of the year in an effort to secure an agreement that achieves improvements in programming, permanency and pay.
The only offer from the government to date was insufficient to address these key issues, and was rejected by QTU members in TAFE.
Please be advised that, as the strike is for 24 hours, VET in schools programs that are offered by TAFE will be affected and students should be advised that they should not attend TAFE classes tomorrow.
QTU members in schools are invited to send motions of solidarity or messages of support to QTU TAFE members via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The strike rally will be held in Brisbane from 12-1pm at Speakers Corner, outside Parliament House. This rally will be live-streamed via the QTU Facebook page and will be attended by members from the south east corner, including from Toowoomba, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.
There are also meetings scheduled at the same time in Bundaberg, Townsville and Cairns.
The strike follows a 2-hour stop work undertaken by QTU TAFE members on Tuesday 30 July 2019.
More information about the QTU TAFE EB campaign can be found on the QTU website.
