Eligible members to receive EST2 from 1 January 2022
Experienced senior teacher 2 (EST2) implementation
During the EB9 negotiations, the parties agreed to implement a two point pay classification within EST (EST1 and EST2) from 2022.
The EST2 classification will be available to eligible teachers from 1 January 2022, in accordance with the Department of Education State School Teachers Certified Agreement 2019.
EST2 will be available to teachers who:
- have three years’ service as an experienced senior teacher (EST); and
- have had an annual performance review (APR) discussion with their supervisor within the previous 12 months, using the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership Highly Accomplished Teacher Competences to inform the APR discussion.
Teachers who have achieved the three-year service requirement at EST1 prior to 1 January 2022
Eligible teachers and their current principal will automatically be notified by human resources between this week and 8 October. Your current principal will be asked to verify that you have had an APR discussion with your current supervisor within the past 12 months and approve your EST2 classification prior to 5 November. Payroll will process EST2 classification approvals for payment to commence on 1 January 2022.
If you have not received notification of your EST2 approval status by 12 November and believe you are eligible, please email the department at email@example.com.
Teachers who will achieve the three-year service requirement at EST1 following 1 January 2022
Eligible teachers will be notified of their eligibility for EST2 in the term preceding their eligibility. Information regarding how to apply will be included in the service eligibility notification. Notifications for Term 1 2022 eligibility will be distributed in Term 4 2021.

Thank you to all the QTU Reps who convened meetings at their workplaces and submitted their feedback for the development of the EB10 claim. The submission period for this feedback has now closed. Initially, we will use it to help us shape a survey for all members that will be distributed early in Term 4.
The feedback from schools indicates an overwhelming endorsement of the three key themes of our EB campaign (teaching and learning conditions, remuneration, and equity) as well as the factors that will be considered for determining salaries in this EB. As well as this, members in many workplaces have submitted their own suggestions on specific matters they would like to see included in the EB10 claim. These are being collated for consideration by QTU Executive and State Council later this year. There will be further updates on the progress of the EB10 log of claims throughout Term 4.
End of Term 3
The last 21 months have not been easy, with a lot of uncertainty around our own health, safety and wellbeing as well as that of our family and members. We cannot predict where and when the next COVID outbreak will be, or what the health advice and policy responses will be to that outbreak.
On that basis, while the QTU understands that teachers and school leaders might take their school laptop home over the holidays, we strongly encourage them to set aside time to exercise the right-to-disconnect from schoolwork. We know that many teachers and school leaders will catch up over the holidays and plan or undertake professional development or any number of other activities. We urge you to nominate blocks of time that are for you, your family, your friends and communities. For those times, put your laptop in a cupboard or a drawer and leave it there until Term 4 commences.
The QTU acknowledges your “right to disconnect” over the school holidays, so to help you enjoy a well-earned break we will avoid sending you emails during your down time.
