The QTU wears pink

In every workplace, in every staffroom, and at every branch meeting, we have friends and colleagues who have faced cancer — some still fighting, some surviving, and some tragically lost too soon.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It touches all of us. And in true union spirit, when one of us is affected, all of us feel it.
This year, the Queensland Teachers’ Union once again proudly wore pink at the Biennial Conference in support of the McGrath Foundation, an organisation dedicated to placing cancer care nurses in communities across Australia, providing free care and support to those experiencing cancer and their families.
For more than 20 years, it has had a proven positive impact on caring for breast cancer patients, and the knowledge gained has led to a new vision, with care now extended to all cancers. All money raised has helped fund the McGrath Foundation Cancer Care Nurses to deliver world leading clinical, psychosocial and emotional support to people with any type of cancer through their treatment.
As educators, we know the power of community. The McGrath Foundation shares that belief; ensuring that no one goes through breast cancer without the support they need. The QTU is proud to support that mission.
Wearing pink is more than symbolic — it’s a collective show of solidarity with those in our ranks and beyond who are navigating the realities of cancer.
To our members who wore pink and donated, thank you. To members who want to donate, its not too late click here. And to those who are fighting or have fought cancer — you are not alone. You are surrounded by unionists who care, who remember, and who will always stand beside you. Because in this Union, no one fights alone.
