Emma Miller Award Recipients
Jenny Swadling
Emma Miller award recipient - 2004
Jenny began teaching in 1976 and attended strike meetings and Labour Day Marches in the 70s and 80s. She was forced to resign from the Dept in 1983 to have a family, but she rejoined the Union in 1986 when doing supply and contract work. Perhaps the one event that galvanised her into action was the Leading Schools dispute in 1997.
Jenny went on to hold just about every honorary position in the QTU, including Branch President of the Warrego Branch, State Conference Delegate, Secretary/Treasurer, Union Rep and Women's Contact, as well as attending Women's Conferences at the state and federal level. She also served on the State Accommodation Committee and advocated for local members at Housing Forums.
Jenny, now principal of the Charleville School of Distance Education, was elected Honorary Vice-President of the QTU in 2015.
