The QTU strongly discourages participation in AITSL’s latest survey about online formative assessment.
The survey relates to work being undertaken by an amalgam of federal interested bodies including AITSL, ACARA, and Education Services Australia.
The QTU has expressed our concern that the amalgamation of these federal bodies will concentrate education policy making in the hands of the bureaucracy and further diminish the voice of the teaching profession.
The result will likely be increasing reliance on teachers and school leaders to collect and report more data, under the surveillance of federal agencies, rather than engage in our core business of teaching and learning.
The Online Formative Assessment initiative is an example of federal education initiatives that continue to strip professional autonomy from the teachers and school leaders, and require subordination to materials created by third parties who have no knowledge or understanding of your work, with your students, in your school.
The QTU has reviewed the online survey and has significant concerns about the validity of the instrument and the reliability of the data that it will generate. These concerns will be raised directly with the Queensland College of Teachers.
