THE PROFESSIONAL AND INDUSTRIAL VOICE OF QUEENSLAND’S TEACHERS AND SCHOOL LEADERS IN STATE SCHOOLS AND TAFE FOR MORE THAN 130 YEARS.

Support the NAPLAN boycott - 11 March 2020

Queensland's teachers have their work cut out for them with planning, teaching, assessing and reporting on the curriculum and helping students with their social and emotional development - preparing the citizens of the future. They certainly they don't have time to dedicate hours and hours to NAPLAN preparation and agonising over NAPLAN data.

In addition to the stress and anxiety it has inflicted on our students since its introduction over a decade ago, NAPLAN has developed into a voracious monster, devouring an ever-increasing proportion of teachers’ and school leaders’ time and effort.

Originally introduced to provide teachers with a snapshot of student’s progress in literacy and numeracy, today NAPLAN has become a menace, narrowing the curriculum and creating an avalanche of extra work for educators, including test practice, pre-testing, NAPLAN improvement plans and upper two bands programs.

You don’t have to meekly accept the working conditions that are imposed upon you. You are part of a strong union – you can change them.

Enough is enough, as QTU Vice-President Cresta Richardson explained at Saturday's State Council meeting (listen below).

The time has come to fight back against NAPLAN. Vote in support of the QTU NAPLAN boycott, and together we can take back our time.
