Queensland's teachers have their work cut out for them with planning, teaching, assessing and reporting on the curriculum and helping students with their social and emotional development - preparing the citizens of the future. They certainly they don't have time to dedicate hours and hours to NAPLAN preparation and agonising over NAPLAN data.
In addition to the stress and anxiety it has inflicted on our students since its introduction over a decade ago, NAPLAN has developed into a voracious monster, devouring an ever-increasing proportion of teachers’ and school leaders’ time and effort.
Originally introduced to provide teachers with a snapshot of student’s progress in literacy and numeracy, today NAPLAN has become a menace, narrowing the curriculum and creating an avalanche of extra work for educators, including test practice, pre-testing, NAPLAN improvement plans and upper two bands programs.
