Minimum period of long service leave
Long service leave is available to any DoE employee after they have completed 10 years’ continuous service. There is no maximum limit on how much long service leave you can take at one time, but is there a minimum?
Well there is, but there is also flexibility.
The minimum period of long service leave which can be taken at any one time is one week, but state school teachers, including classroom teachers and those in classified positions, can access long service leave in periods of no less than one day per week or fortnight, provided the requested periods of long service leave amount to:
• five days or more in total, so a replacement temporary teacher can be engaged or
• a lesser period, as long as there is no need to use the Teacher Relief Scheme (TRS).
