Flexible student free days
With the October student free day (SFD) around the corner, members in schools have probably already turned their minds to how flexible SFD hours may be used in 2019.
There will be three flexible SFDs next year - the three that generally generally form part of the autumn holidays.
At the local level, you may choose to have this 15 hours of flexible SFD time at an alternative time in the school year, so that teachers are not required to attend school during the holidays.
Some schools, through agreement of the LCC, may also wish to add the five hours allocated for the third Monday in term four to these hours.
Schools should consider appropriate processes to ensure that mandatory training and relevant professional development occur in lieu of attendance at school on these days.
As this will effectively amend working conditions and is likely to result in a change to rostered duty time in given weeks, the timing of activities in lieu of attendance on flexible SFDs must be subject to consultation and agreement at the LCC, in schools required to have one.
