World Teachers Day - Australia
This year, World Teachers Day will be celebrated in Australia on Friday 25 October. Internationally it is held on 5 October, however, as this is usually during our school holidays, Australia celebrates the day on the last Friday in October.
Why not get involved and celebrate the work you do in transforming lives?
QTU members can demonstrate their pride in our profession by wearing one of the World Teachers Day ribbons, adding the World Teachers Day frame to your social media profile pic, or hosting an event in your school. Head to www.worldteachersday.com.au
World Teachers Day - Internationally
World Teachers’ Day 2019 will mark the 71st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) that recognizes education as a key fundamental right and establishes an entitlement to free compulsory education, ensuring inclusive and equitable access for all children.
In 2019, World Teachers’ Day will celebrate teachers with the theme, “Young Teachers: The future of the Profession.” The day provides the occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, to take stock of achievements, and to address some of the issues central for attracting and keeping the brightest minds and young talents in the profession.
Held annually on 5 October since 1994, World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. It is co-convened in partnership with UNICEF, UNDP, the International Labour Organization, and Education International.
