Emma Miller Awards 2023: Thank you, Chrissy!
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 128 No 7, 29 September 2023, page no. 4
The QTU has nominated Chrissy Pobar as its 2023 Emma Miller Award recipient.
The awards recognise rank and file female members for their commitment and achievements within their Union, and it is considered a great honour in our movement to receive an Emma Miller Award.
Chrissy has more than 40 years of continuous QTU membership and has been a Union Rep for 38 of those years. She is a Lead Union Rep and held the position of Noosa Branch Women’s Contact from 1989 until 2022, an incredible tribute to her dedication to the women of her branch.
Throughout her service, Chrissy has stood up for members with determination and energy, and she is known to bring her campaigning spirit and enthusiasm whenever the QTU calls upon her. Chrissy is always prepared to challenge and question the status quo, a quality that QTU Reps know and understand is not always easy when faced with powerful opposition.
Chrissy is an example of a contemporary Union woman who has shown lifelong commitment to ensuring the voices of members in her school, branch, and region are heard.
The Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) has proudly hosted the annual Emma Miller Awards since 1997. They are a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Emma Miller, the suffragette, activist and pioneering union organiser, and honour union women who embody Emma’s tenacious spirit.
