Pre-service supervision rates increased
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 127 No 2, 11 March 2022, page no.20
The QTU has negotiated an interim increase to professional experience supervision payment rates.
The rates paid to those members supervising pre-service teachers has risen by 2 per cent to $34.70 per day. This builds on the success of the 2019 “Claim and Complain” campaign, as a result of which the QTU was successful in achieving a significant increase in rates for per-service teacher supervision for the first time in decades. So, if you have agreed to supervise pre-service teachers, don’t forget to check that the correct rate has been applied to your payment.
New pre-service teacher supervision agreement
Working with and supporting pre-service teachers is a role that teachers and education leaders take very seriously. “Paying it forward” is how the profession is scaffolded and sustained.
Teachers commit a lot of professional time and energy to this important work, and our members are strongly of the view that it should be appropriately recognised, via payment for supervision. As many members would be aware, “traditional” pre-service teacher professional experience models are being altered in a variety of ways, and many universities are asking schools to take on students for “work-experience” or “immersion”-type programs, or indeed asking them to host student “volunteers” at school sites.
The QTU is working with the sector to consider these matters and is negotiating a replacement agreement, to get recognition for the work that teachers undertake on those placements.
