Teachers' legal champion retires
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 127 No number 4, 3 June 2022, page no. 26
Andrew Knott, Special Counsel with the QTU’s lawyers Holding Redlich, has provided priceless legal expertise and support to countless QTU members over almost half century. With the announcement of his well-earned retirement, it’s time to acknowledge his extraordinary career.
Andrew is THE expert in education law in Queensland. He has worked with the QTU and the Independent Education Union – Queensland and Northern Territory Branch (IEU-QNT) in all its forms for close to 50 years. Andrew’s name is synonymous with legal seminars and legal advice and support for our members.
I first met Andrew when he was a lawyer at Hill and Taylor. He was part of the earlier iterations of this law firm and the many iterations since. Wherever the team went, Andrew was clear that the education unions were a core client and, whatever the law firm, we needed to be looked after – a demonstration that our values and that of the teams he has led or has been special counsel to are closely aligned.
While the General Secretaries and the legal officers of the QTU have changed over time, Andrew Knott has been a constant. We recognised Andrew’s contribution to the QTU at conference 10 years ago with an honorary Life Membership of the Union.
His depth of knowledge is only bested by his sense of fun - his dry wit and humour has led to many sore ribs from laughing many times.
Andrew I can say nothing more than these two words - on behalf of the QTU, thank you.
