Labour Day 2024
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 129 No 4, 7 June 2024, page 18.
Labour Day 2024 set records with members turning up in huge numbers right across Queensland.
In the regions, the QTU led the way in all marches, meaning our members were front and centre in celebration of 135 years of achievement.
In Brisbane, there was a sea of teal, blue and black QTU shirts on the backs of members proudly calling for fair funding, safety and respect in schools, and support for TAFE. It was certainly a loud, proud teacher crowd! So much so that the Queensland Council of Unions declared our huge contingent as the best taking part in the Brisbane Labour Day March.
The annual Queensland Council of Unions Labour Day Awards, which were presented at the Labour Day Dinner just before the weekend itself, also highlighted the work of our great Union. The QTU took the Best Recruitment Campaign Award for its recruitment campaign in Term 3 2023, while Paige Bousen, substantively the Union’s Assistant Secretary – Education Leaders but currently acting Workplace Health and Safety Organiser, received the Kath Nelson award, which recognises a union official who lives the values of the movement.
