TAFE Council meets with Minister Lance McCallum
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 129 No 4, 7 June 2024, page 23.
QTU TAFE Council hosted Lance McCallum, Queensland’s Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development, at its May meeting.
Delegates to TAFE Council, which is the peak decision-making body of the QTU’s TAFE Division, consisting of elected delegates from every TAFE and Central Queensland University (CQU) branch, discussed workplace matters and Queensland training policy with the Minister, who also has quarterly meetings with QTU General Secretary Kate Ruttiman.
Minister McCallum has a longstanding commitment to training, trade unions, and dignity of work. Prior to his current position, he was the Queensland Assistant Minister for Hydrogen Development, so he also understands the direct link between sustainable climate policy and the role of training in delivering workforce demands and employment opportunities.
Following the Minister’s address and subsequent TAFE Council deliberations, the QTU will be raising a suite of matters with the Queensland Government and both TAFE and CQU.
