Strike day 2 - 25 November 2025
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 131 No 1, 20 February 2026, page no 8&9.
QTU members took to the streets across Queensland for a second full day of industrial action on 25 November 2025.
The willingness of members to take collective action and send a message to the government, their employer, and the broader community that teachers and school leaders deserve to be paid fairly and to work in safe and well resourced workplaces left no doubt that they would not back down.
Ultimately, improving the working conditions of teachers and school leaders improves the learning conditions for the students in all of our classrooms across the state.
A large rally took place on the day at Queens Gardens in the centre of Brisbane, followed by a march through the city ending in front of Education House. This demonstration of member solidarity occurred right across the length and breadth of our large and diverse state.
For some members, this was the first time they had participated in such action. For others, it was a reminder of what solidarity looks and feels like.
We also welcomed many new members who joined the Union as part of the EB11 campaign.
Although we were unable to reach a settlement with the department in the QIRC as part of a lengthy conciliation process, one thing was clear – we were sticking together for our profession, public education, and our students.
Your Union will continue to advocate on your behalf through a lengthy arbitration process commencing in 2026.
We remain open to dialogue with the government, including discussions around the capacity for the department to reconsider providing an administrative pay increase for teachers and school leaders while the arbitration is conducted.
Your Union aims to represent you through that process with professionalism, courage and expertise.
