Know your working conditions: parental leave
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 131 No 2, 2 April 2026, page no 7.
The rules around parental leave are important to know if you are planning to start or growing your family.
The QTU provides online sessions for temporary, permanent, and long-term casual employees, as well as delegated decision makers, explaining your basic parental leave entitlements and where to go for specific advice about your own circumstances, whether this involves pregnancy, adoption, surrogacy, or cultural parentage.
The session covers who is eligible for the paid parental leave entitlement, how to access it, and the rights associated with parental leave under the Industrial Relations Act 2016.
Forthcoming sessions
Term 2 – 16 June 4:00pm
Term 3 – 8 September 4:00 pm
