Milton training day
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 131 No 4, 26 June 2026, page no.7
On Friday 29 May, QTU Workplace Representatives and school leaders came together at the QTU’s Milton office to complete training on working conditions and local consultative committees (LCCs).
It was a great opportunity to bring together Reps and leaders and enable them to gain a shared understanding of the industrial landscape, which can sometimes be complex for the uninitiated.
Some of the topics covered include rostered duty time, meal breaks, non-contact time, and work undertaken out of school hours.
LCCs sessions are highly sought after as they are the key body in schools that gives Union members a voice in local decisions that affect their work. The LCC session allowed participants to unpack the details of LCCs, such as committee composition, areas requiring consultation, and different types of consultation, as well as practical ways to engage with QTU members on LCC matters.
The day also included a tour of the QTU building and a briefing on arbitration. The day was thoroughly enjoyed, with a lot of discussion of real-world scenarios and how they relate to our industrial conditions.
