National Safe Work Month is an initiative promoted annually in October by Safe Work Australia. This year’s theme, “Safe Work is For Life”, highlights that work health and safety (WHS) extends beyond preventing immediate injuries. It is about safeguarding workers’ long-term lives, health, and futures. Safe Work is For Life reflects the fundamental purpose of WHS: preventing work-related death, injury, and illness, while also recognising the long-term impact workplace harm can have on workers, families, organisations, and communities.
This year we’ve expanded our offering of National Safe Work Month webinars, with the aim of increasing member awareness and education on WHS issues, strategies, and solutions. We’ve received hundreds of registrations from teachers and school leaders around the state, and it’s not too late to join some of the remaining sessions this October.

Missed a webinar? It’s not too late to learn more!
Members can access a range of recorded workplace health and safety resources via the QTU website, including:
- unpacking the right to disconnect
- psychosocial hazards in the workplace
- managing unreasonable conduct from the community (for school leaders)
- special education — how to mitigate risks
- recognising, reporting, and responding to occupational violence and aggression.
Webinar recordings from 2026’s National Safe Work Month will be uploaded early in November here to increase the suite of videos available for members.
Our 2026 Safe Work Month webpage is loaded with brochures, posters, pocket guides, reading recommendations, and other resources to support you in the workplace.
