Vale Margaret Doran

The QTU was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Life Member Margaret Doran.

During her long Union career, Margaret served in many roles, including Union Representative, Branch Treasurer and Vice-President for Inala and Ipswich Central, Area Council Representative, and Conference delegate.

Margaret often took Union issues to the media and local politicians, and during industrial campaigns she led from the front. In every sense of the word, she was an activist. 

She was an intelligent, well-educated person who had a sophisticated and compassionate view of the world. She was always professional in her dealings with staff, children, and parents, and was passionate about the importance of promoting a strong public education sector. 

Margaret brought a measured, practical focus to everyday educational problems and practices. It was her nature to be inclusive and to draw people in. Beginning teachers looked up to Margaret and valued and respected her professionalism.

Most importantly though, when the chips were down, Margaret was there for her colleagues. When they were facing potentially career threatening situations, Margaret's cool hand and genuine concern for people often made all the difference.
