1 April 2022: From the General Secretary's desk
Disconnect from work these holidays
Holidays should be a time when teachers and school leaders have the opportunity to disconnect from work and reconnect with family and friends.
After the complexities of this term, QTU members need to take time to unwind these holidays.
The QTU recognises the significant work that members have managed this term. From the delay to the start of the school year, modifying the curriculum to ensure all students had access to learning despite the pandemic and the original announcement of the extension to the school year, members have continued to deliver for students, their communities and their colleagues.
The impact of the teacher shortage and natural disasters have also drained energy reserves.
It’s time for you to have a break.
This is why we are pausing our communication and social media over the coming holidays. In doing this, we hope this assists you to exercise your right to disconnect and rest. If there is anything that we need to let you know, we will email you and place it on our website. Hopefully this won’t be necessary.
Next term we will recommence our weekly updates about EB negotiations, reinvigorate the teacher shortage strategy and fight for a federal government that respects our profession – in words and actions, but for now we wish you a safe and relaxing break.
