Time to get involved!
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 126 No 5, 30 July 2021, page no.16
In the lead up to the next federal election, QTU members can get involved in two critical national education campaigns: Every School, Every Child and Rebuild with TAFE.
Our school funding campaign Every School, Every Child aims to see the funding of all state schools in Queensland lifted to 100 per cent of the student resource standard and additional capital investment by future federal governments in state school facilities.
You can take the first step toward getting involved by signing the pledge at www.everyschooleverychild.org.au
Our members tell us all the time about the direct resources they provide to assist their students each year. We should have a fully funded school system that doesn’t have to rely on fund raising or teachers goodwill, with teachers having to spend their own money on basic essentials. Our communities also deserve to work and learn in quality facilities, and this can only be achieved if there is additional investment by both the state and federal governments.
Our Rebuild with TAFE campaign seeks to have TAFE funded properly and positioned to lead with the economic recovery of our nation as we transition through and out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
TAFE is the premium and trusted public provider of vocational skills and training, but over a period of decades has been starved of appropriate capital and recurrent funding and forced into competition with private providers who have no social or ongoing obligations to the communities they deliver to. TAFE is part of each community where a course is delivered.
