The Queensland Teachers' Education Centre (QTEC)
Union and Industrial Training
The Queensland Teachers’ Education Centre (QTEC) is the section of the QTU responsible for the coordination, planning and delivery of Union and industrial training.
QTEC offers a range of courses, seminars and conferences focused on workplace Union Representatives, QTU position holders, school leaders, new teachers and activists. The aim of QTEC training is to support members to become more well-informed, active and effective representatives of the QTU in the workplace. Engagement in union training provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to understand, access and improve upon the working conditions of all members and to ultimately build union power.
Course participants can expect to receive excellent, up to date industrial information and .advice as well as build highly transferrable skills in areas such as communication, consultation and negotiation.
QTEC offers a range of face-to-face training throughout Queensland as well as live-online sessions. The library of on-demand topics continues to be developed in order to meet the needs of union reps. Courses are facilitated by Union Officers and the QTEC Coordinator.
QTEC events are for financial members of the Union only.

Get Set to Rep: Information and Q&A for new reps
This online session is ideal for newly elected union reps or those wanting to reconnect with the basics. The program is designed to provide participants with overview of information to get them started in the role of union rep.

Level 1 Union Rep Training: Setting the Foundations
This training course is ideal for beginning union reps or as a refresher for union reps who have not completed training in the past 3 years. The program is designed to provide participants with the foundations needed to undertake their duties with knowledge and confidence.

Level 2 Union Rep Training: Compliance, Communication and Consultation
This training course is for union reps who have completed Level 1 training in the past 3 years. The program is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to be a leading union rep in your workplace and to work confidently with members and consultation processes.

Level 3 Union Rep Training: Growing Union Power
This training course is for union reps who have completed Level 2 training in the past 3 years. The program is designed to provide participants with the strategies and tools to grow the union and its’ influence within the workplace and area. Experienced reps understand their people, can lead members and mentor other reps and use negotiation skills to further the interests of members.

School sector training
School Leaders: Navigating the Industrial Landscape
The aim of this training day is to support school leaders in understanding and navigating the industrial landscape in which they lead. In this course participants have the opportunity to discuss current issues and campaigns, changes to DoE policy and directives as well as learn about the implementation of the Award and Certified Agreement.

School Leaders: Promotion Panel Training
This workshop is open to QTU members in classified teaching positions who have nominated or a considering nominating to be a QTU promotion panel nominee. This course aims to provide participants with up-to-date information regarding recruitment and selection processes as well as guidance on how to be an effective panelist.

Local Consultative Committee Extended Training
This half-day training is ideal for developing a deeper understanding of consultation in the workplace and the role of the Local Consultative Committee. It is ideal for Union Reps and school leaders, especially those who sit on their workplace LCC.

This half-day training is ideal for developing a deeper understanding of working conditions and basic entitlements with the aim of ensuring that these conditions are understood and implemented in the workplace.

Occupational Violence Training
This workshop is ideal for members including union reps and school leaders, who want to develop an in-depth knowledge about reporting, recognising and responding to Occupational Violence. OV is viewed through a Workplace Health and Safety and legal lense in reference to both physical and psychological injury.
