Roselynne Anderson QTU Scholarship
Queensland Teachers' Journal, Vol 130 No 3, 23 May 2025, page no 24.
Now’s the time to consider applying for the 2026 Roselynne Anderson QTU Scholarship.
The QTU introduced the scholarship in 2022 to enable successful applicants to pursue professional development, training or tertiary education relevant to special education, school leadership or women in education.
In March, State Council approved increasing the scholarship up to $6,000, with a minimum of one member per category awarded a scholarship up to the value of $2,000 per member to assist with expenses.
Eligible members have to complete a scholarship application form, which will be considered by a sub-committee of the QTU’s Special Education Committee. The QTU Executive will approve the scholarships for the recommended applicants.
Scholarship eligibility criteria
- Applicants must be financial QTU members.
- Applicants must be undertaking or preparing to undertake professional development or training or further tertiary education relevant to special education, school leadership or women in education.
- Applicants must complete an application form which will outline how the scholarship funds will be used.
- Applicants will commit to providing the QTU with a brief report at the conclusion of the scholarship period outlining how the scholarship has contributed to their professional development or to their school’s education programme.

Roselynne Anderson
The scholarship is named in honour of QTU Life Member Roselynne Anderson (pictured), who made a significant contribution to the Union over approximately 30 years. She held various QTU positions, including Workplace Rep, Branch President and Vice-President, Branch Delegate to Area Council, State Council Delegate, Executive member, delegate at AEU Federal Conference and AEU Women’s Conference, and member of the AEU National Principals Committee, always advocating for members in special education settings.
She commenced her membership of the QTU’s Special Education Committee in 1992, and according to our records, is the longest serving QTU member to have enjoyed continuous membership of a QTU standing committee, with close to 30 years of involvement in the committee when she retired in July 2021.
Roselynne was a member of Education Leaders Committee for 17 years (2003-2020) Women Teachers and Girls Education Committee for 13 years (2004 – 2017), and a member of QTU Executive for five years. She was the QTU endorsed representative on the Board of the Queensland College of Teachers from 2006-2008 and in 2011 and played an active role in the Queensland Council of Unions.
In August 2021, Roselynne passed away suddenly following an unexpected illness.
